چکیده

Motivated by recent experiments by Basov et al., we study the differential sum rule for the effective scattering rate 1/tau(omega). We show that, in a dirty BCS superconductor, the area under 1/tau(omega) does not change between the normal and the superconducting states. For magnetically mediated pairing, a similar result holds between Tor=T(c), while, in the pseudogap phase, 1/tau(omega) is just suppressed compared to 1/tau(omega) in the normal state. We argue that this violation of the differential sum rule in the pseudogap phase is due to the absence of the feedback effects from the pairing.

Differential sum rule for the relaxation rate in dirty superconductors

We consider the differential sum rule for the effective scattering rate 1/t(v) and optical conductivity s1(v) in a dirty BCS superconductor, for arbitrary ratio of the superconducting gap D and the normal state constant damping rate 1/t . We show that if t is independent of T, the area under 1/t(v) does not change between the normal and the superconducting states, i.e., there exists an exact di...

Evidence for crossover from a Bose-Einstein condensate to a BCS-like superconductor with doping in YBa2Cu3O7−δ from quasiparticle relaxation

Time resolved measurements of quasiparticle (QP) relaxation dynamics on the femtosecond timescale are reported as a function of temperature and doping in YBa2Cu3O7−δ for (0.48 < δ < 0.1). In the underdoped state (δ > 0.15), there is no evidence for any changes in the low-energy gap structure at Tc from either photoinduced QP absorption or QP relaxation time data. In combination with the sum rul...

Sum rules and electrodynamics of high - Tc cuprates in the pseudogap state

We explore connections between the electronic density of states ~DOS! in a conducting system and the frequency dependence of the scattering rate 1/t(v) inferred from infrared spectroscopy. We show that changes in the DOS upon the development of energy gaps can be reliably tracked through the examination of the 1/t(v) spectra using the sum rules discussed in the text. Applying this analysis to t...

A pr 1 99 7 Hall angle in high - T c cuprates : Anomalous tempera - ture dependence and anisotropic scattering

Hall angle in high-T c cuprates: Anomalous temperature dependence and anisotropic scattering Abstract. The anisotropy of the scattering rates, 1/τ tr ∝ T and 1/τ H ∝ T 2 , implied effectively by the anomalous temperature dependence of the normal-state in-plane Hall angle, cot θ ∝ T 2 , observed in the high-T c lay-ered cuprates is reasoned out to be a natural consequence of the semiclassical Bo...

Parallel Jobs Scheduling with a Specific Due Date: Asemi-definite Relaxation-based Algorithm

This paper considers a different version of the parallel machines scheduling problem in which the parallel jobs simultaneously requirea pre-specifiedjob-dependent number of machines when being processed. This relaxation departs from one of the classic scheduling assumptions. While the analytical conditions can be easily statedfor some simple models, a graph model approach is required when confli...
